20 Percent Salary Boost for CEOs

The newspaper “Dagens Nyheter” reports that last year the heads of the companies on the Swedish stock exchange received an average salary increase of 20 percent.

That compares to 2.6 percent for blue collar workers and 3.1 percent for white collar workers.

Sture Nordh, president of the Confederation for Professional Employees, says the high salary increases among top executives can cause problems during the upcoming round of contract negotiations. Should employers call again for restraint on the part of the workers, he says, they have to show they are prepared to practice it themselves.
