Bildt in Turkey to Discuss EU Talks

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt is in Ankara for discussions on Turkey’s troubled bid to join the European Union.

The European Commission recently recommended freezing parts of the membership talks because of Turkey’s refusal to open its ports to ships and planes from Cyprus. The EU will decide next week on the future of the negotiations.

Bildt has said the commission’s recommendation risks destabilizing the region.
