Sony-Ericsson to Manufacture in India

Swedish-Japanese phone maker Sony Ericcson has announced plans to begin manufacturing handsets in India in partnership with Taiwanese group Foxconn and US-based Flextronics.

The venture is to be based in Chennai in the south of the country, with output from the factory destined for the Indian market.

According to a statement from the group, ”With a GSM subscriber base of 105.4 million, India is one of the fastest growing mobile markets in the world, and forms a priority growth market for Sony Ericsson worldwide.”

Sony Ericsson said it was already ”amongst the top three GSM handset players in the country.”
