New safety worries at troubled power plant

Two new breaches of security at the Forsmark site have been discovered.....the first being radioactive particles in a corridor and the second, an ashtray in a strictly no-smoking part of the plant.

The particles were found in an area where there should not have been any radioactivity and the matter has been referred to the Swedish Radiation Protection Authority.

The ashtray and cigarette ends were discovered in a room in a restricted zone, where people are not allowed to put anything into their mouths, and experts say the culprits have risked inhaling radioactive particles.

Forsmark’s Chief Executive resigned earlier this month after a series of safety concerns and prosecutors are investigating one of several emergency shutdowns since the summer.
