Six dead and dozens injured after two buses collide

The commuter buses crashed into each other on Tuesday morning, outside the central town of Uppsala, north of Stockholm.

Up to 55 people were onboard the two vehicles which careered off the road and into a ditch. One man and five women were killed and four of those hurt are said to have serious injuries.

Ten ambulances and several fire engines and helicopters were used in the rescue operation. The cause of the crash has not been determined but rescue workers say roads in the area were dangerous because of wintry conditions.

Both the buses belonged to the regional transport authority and were travelling in opposite directions when they collided. Government crash investigators have been sent to the scene.
