Long live Swedish men!

According to Statistics Sweden men have, on average, gained a year of life when comparing to the end of the 1990s.

The average life expectancy for women has also increased to the grand old-age of 82. The average life expectancy for men is 78. Longer life-spans are thanks to better health and more effective health care.

But Statistics Sweden says regional differences continue to play a considerable role in life expectancy. In general, life expectancy is higher in southern Sweden and lower in the northern parts of the country. Social and economic factors are seen to affect the mortality rate when comparing municipalities.
