Children who were illegally taken by their father to Gaza for 7 months, reunited with their mother

Concern Over Children Taken Abroad

It’s been reported that the number of Swedish children being taken abroad by one of their parents, without the other’s consent, is rising dramatically.

The newspaper ”Dagens Nyheter” reports that during the first few months of this year, there were 36 new cases reported to the Foreign Ministry, twice the number in the same period last year.

The Swedish Foreign Ministry has been criticised for not doing enough to trace kidnapped children but it says this can be difficult, especially if they’re taken to countries not bound by the Hague Convention on International Child Abduction.

One reason for the increase is thought to be a rise in the number of Swedes having relationships with people from other countries.
