The girl was forced by her father to live here

Resignation After Apology to Abused Girl

A senior social services official in southern Sweden has resigned after a TV documentary revealed how a girl had been left living with her father who raped her hundreds of times over a number of years.

The girl was about 10 in 2001 when she was placed in her father’s custody, despite his previously sentence to psychiatric care after trying to murder someone.

Social workers in the municipality of Vetlanda were contacted several times about her situation but failed to intervene. The head of the Vetlanda office apologised to the girl publicly on Wednesday and on Thursday the head of its family section resigned.

The father’s since been found guilty of raping his daughter and and has been sent back into secure psychiatric care.
