Stockholm's analog TV transmitters were turned off on March 12

Digital TV Failure

Many terrestrial digital TV viewers across Sweden stared onto blank screens for more than 15 minutes Wednesday when a router suddenly disconnected.

According to a spokesperson for Teracom, the company responsible for over the air transmitting, between 500,000 and 1 million of Sweden’s 4.2 million households were affected by the disruption.

Sweden is currently upgrading its terrestrial TV network - moving from analog to digital. So far, about 50 percent of this Scandinavian country’s analog network has been shut down.

The digital changeover is planned to be finalized by November.

The outage did not affect digital cable or satellite broadcasts.
