Sweden’s Top Women’s Team Look Forward to Final

The biggest match in women’s European club football takes place on Saturday with Sweden’s Umeå IK defending their UEFA Cup title against Arsenal of England.

Umeå IK have some of the top stars in the women’s game, including the 21 year old Brazilian striker Marta, voted the best player in the world last year.

Umeå IK are Sweden’s leading team, and have won the premiership five times and the UEFA Cup twice. The club have attracted other foreign talents, including Asia’s top player Ma Xiaoxu of China.

The final takes place over two legs, with Saturday’s first leg played up in Umeå.

Hanna Ljungberg is Sweden’s biggest football star and has been a member of Umeå IK for years, despite lucrative offers from abroad and other Swedish teams for the 28-year-old striker.

Looking ahead to the final, Ljungberg said, ”We’re psyched.”
