Czechs & Hungarians Ground Swedish Fighters

The Czech Republic and Hungary have both grounded the 14 Gripen fighter aircraft they each lease from Sweden after one of the planes crashed in northern Sweden on Thursday.

The pilot says he did not initiate an emergency ejection. He wasn’t seriously hurt when the jet came down near the town of Luleå during an exercise.

Swedish Air Force officials say they’ve never heard of such a strange problem before, and two Gripen models have been grounded here while the cause of the investigation into the incident.

The Czech military says its Gripen planes will also stay on the ground until Swedish manufacturer Saab comes up with an explanation.
