Police confront anti-Sweden Democrat demonstrators

Sweden Democrats’ Meeting Problems

The leader of Sweden’s opposition Social Democrats and both the country’s Justice and Integration Ministers say there is a ”democratic problem” that the anti-immigrant Sweden Democrat party can’t find a place to hold its annual conference.

After venues in Sweden turned them away because of fears of violent demonstrations or bomb threats, the Sweden Democrats had booked a hotel in neighboring Denmark. But that too has cancelled the booking for the same reason.

Integration Minister Nyamko Sabuni says it’s totally unacceptable that places the Sweden Democrats want to hire are being threatened and however much she dislikes their policies they have a right to hold a meeting.

The party doubled its support in the elections last September and with 2.9 percent of the national vote finished short of the 4 percent needed to enter parliament.
