Forecasting Personal Unemployment

The Swedish Employment Service is trying out a new way of working out who’s at risk of staying unemployed for a long time.

It’s hoped a computer program with a job-seeker’s details will help them decide what type of people need extra help to get back to work. The profiling will include information on training, employment history, ethnic background etc.

The new system is said to have a 70 percent accuracy rate in determining who’s likely to be jobless for more than six months.
