The meeting reflected a push by European leaders to win greater cooperation from the United States in cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
At a press conference following the White House meeting, Bush acknowledged that Reinfeldt had pressed the issue.
Sweden’s prime minister also told a U.S. congressional panel that the Bush administration’s approach to fighting global warming was insufficient. He stressed that the world could not rely on technological innovation alone to reduce greenhouse gas emissions but must also move to curb emissions through regulation.
Reinfeldt’s visit is his first to Washington since his center-right coalition came to power last year.
