Unofficial Economy Growing

Sweden’s black and grey markets are booming, according to a report from the country’s central bank.

Economists at Riksbanken told the newspaper ”Dagens Industri” that between 1990 and 2004 these illegal or semi-legal sectors increased their share of Sweden’s Gross National Product from 3.8 to 6.5 percent.

Researchers found that 67 per cent of cash transactions during that time couldn’t be accounted for, and the Swedish National Economic Crimes Bureau and the country’s tax authorities also agree that the black economy here has been growing.
