OECD Export Questions Abolishing Property Tax

Sweden’s property tax worked well and the government was wrong to scrap it, according to the Head of Taxation Policy at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

A lower flat-fee is replacing the 1 percent of a property’s value that house owners have paid, and 0.5 percent paid by those with apartments.

But Jeffrey Owens, who is in Stockholm to attend a Confederation of Swedish Enterprise Conference, says the tax gave the state a good revenue with low costs.
