Persson Fined for Building Faults

Former Swedish Prime Minister Göran Persson has been fined around 4300 US dollars for breaking health and safety laws while he was having a country mansion built for himself south of Stockholm.

Persson’s brother’s building firm was carrying out the project when the Swedish Work Environment Authority inspected the site last year.

The failings included the lack of an environmental impact statement and when the initial findings were submitted to the prosecutor in April, the former prime minister said that it was down to a pure oversight on his part.

Persson has accepted the fine and will therefore not face a trial
