Sweden Top Group F After Iceland Thrashing

Sweden’s footballers wrapped up their international programme for the summer with 3 points and top place in Group F after a 5-0 thrashing of Iceland at home on Wednesday night.

Two goals from Marcus Allback and one each from Anders Svensson, Olof Mellberg and Markus Rosenberg saw Sweden cruise home in front of a full house at the Råsunda Stadium. Sweden resumes its qualifying campaign for next year’s European championship in Austria and Switzerland with a return fixture against Denmark in September. Sweden will find out on Friday whether last Saturday’s game with Denmark will be awarded to them after the referee abandoned the game on 89 minutes when he was attacked by a Danish fan. The result of the match currently stands as a draw until UEFA completes its investigation.
