New Housing Not Ready for Climate Change

With the worst flooding in southern England in decades and recent flooding in many areas of southern Sweden, local governments in Sweden are facing criticism that they are failing to take sufficient measures to prevent flood damage, and are allowing new house construction in risk areas – ignoring future threats.

As Eddie de Oliveira reports, the local politicians argue that major infrastructure projects are required to reduce flooding risks – and should be the responsibility of the central government:
