According to the daily ”Aftonbladet” national team manager Lars Lagerbäck says he no longer wishes to quit after next year’s European Championships, leaving the door open to stay in the job until the World Cup in South Africa in 2010.
Negotiations for a new contract are due to begin between Lagerbäck and the Swedish Football Association.
The Swede has coached the national side since 2000, although the first four years of his reign were in partnership with Tommy Söderberg.
In ice hockey, a Swede becomes assistant coach of American legends the New Jersey Devils. Tommy Albelin, a former star player for the Devils, is taking up his first coaching role after a playing career spanning some 952 NHL games.
He won the Stanley Cup trophy twice in 1995 and 2003.
