Proposal to Cut Number of Universities

A recent suggestion proposal to cut the number of universities in Sweden from 14 to 5 is being met with mixed reactions.

Both a government enquiry, as well as the University Chancellor at the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education, Anders Flodström, say the country would benefit from such a reduction.

Within the center-right government, the Conservative Moderates and Christian Democrats see the suggestion as possible solutions but also say it’s too soon to take a position.

Sweden’s institutions of higher learning will present ideas to the government this fall on how they better can profile themselves, here and abroad.
