Using Satellites to Fight Skitters

Satellite imagery is set to be the latest recruit in the fight against the swarms of mosquitos that tend to blight parts of Sweden at this time of year.

Researchers in Uppsala, north of Stockholm, say that satellite pictures could help identify areas of the country where mosquitos are likely to lay eggs.

The technology could help experts alert authorities who in turn could administer more rapid and targetted spraying in a bid to stem sudden population explosions of the pest.
