No Collection of Student Loan Debts Abroad

CSN, the national authority handling financial aid for Swedish students, has put the collection of debts from people living in England and the US who neglect payments on hold.

The agency’s Thomas Svensson says legal proceedings are too costly and complicated in both these countries but there are plans to carry out pilot cases in the future which may provide them with valuable know-how.

But at the moment, some 28,000 Swedes living abroad are going scot free to the tune of 497 million US dollars.
