Gothenburg Restaurant Owners Win Prize for Courage

A Gothenburg couple that owned a restaurant and were threatened and blackmailed by criminal gangs are to be awarded US$ 16000 by Gothenburg Local Council for the way they stood up to the gangs.

The couple defied the threats and went to the police and even testified in court. They are now living in a secret location under police protection.

Gothenburg’s Deputy Mayor Jan Hallberg says the couple deserved the prize for the way they stood up for the rule of law, even though tragically, the rule of law failed to protect them.
