Residence Permit Denied to Expelled Egyptian

The second of two Egyptians who were controversially expelled from this country six years ago has been denied a Swedish residence permit.

The two, who were accused of terrorist links, were handed over to American CIA agents here and taken to Egypt, where they say they were tortured. Several United Nations and humanitarian organisations have criticised Sweden for accepting Egyptian assurances the two would not be abused.

One of the Egyptians was refused residence in Sweden in May, and now Swedish Radio reports that the migration authorities have rejected the application of the second. His lawyer says he will appeal to the Swedish government.
