Treated Pre-Cancer Lesions a Threat 25 Years On

Swedish researchers suggest that even 25 years after treatment, pre-cancerous lesions of the cervix could develop into cancerous tumours.

Published in the online edition of the British Medical Journal, the study pulled data from the National Swedish Cancer Register and concluded that cervical lesions more than doubled the chance of a future cancer developing, even decades after treatment.

Researchers say that this new information, only serves to highlight the importance of regular smear tests for all former patients.
