Swedes Advised Against Travelling to Nairobi

Swedes are being warned to stay away from Nairobi for the moment – that’s the message coming from the Swedish Foreign Ministry, as plans were unveiled by supporters for the opposition to launch a mass protest in Kenya’s capital.

In an interview with Swedish Television, the Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Carl Bildt said that he was extremely worried over developments there and that it was extremely important to open dialogue.

The warning, which was placed on the Ministry’s website, also means that all Swedes who have made travel plans and already paid can now expect a refund. There are currently 2,500 Swedes living in Kenya with a fifth of them living there permanently.
