Government to Propose Legislation on File-Sharing

Following a decision in the European Commission Court of Justice, it is now up to each member state of the European Union to decide whether or not an internet operator can be forced to release information on people suspected of illegal file sharing.

Following the decision from the Court, the Swedish government will now propose legislation to be put into place.

Speaking on the issue Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt said that it was not about hunting down an entire generation, but to target those distributing large amounts of material illegally.

In Sweden, the government had previously investigated the idea of internet operators being forced to release IP-address’s.
