False Welfare Claims Hit New Record

A new Swedish report about the record number of false applications for social welfare benefits has delivered a heavy blow to this Nordic nation’s once-proud reputation for honesty and efficiency.

The report claims that only one 1 of 7 reported cases against suspected fraudulent claims ends up with a conviction.

The reason: too many of the investigations into false claims are incorrectly filed - and too many deal with minor errors - overloading the inspectors and preventing them from tackling the bigger cases.
