Bureaucracy Delays Family Allowance Program

Parents who intend to apply for the so-called family allowance program might have to wait for the payments longer than expected.

Swedish Radio news reports that many municipalities have major difficulties with implementing the payments due to increasing bureaucracy. According to the report, merely 100 municipalities across the country are ready to start with the payments.

Sweden’s center-right coalition government originally planned to introduce the family allowance program as of July 1st 2008.

Parents with children younger than three years can receive 460 dollars when they stay home from work to take care of their children – beyond the first-year new-born baby stage which is already covered by legislation.
