Swedish Doctors Demand Equal Care

The Swedish Luthern Church and a number of doctors here are highly critical of the Swedish medical policies denying equal care to immigrants, refugees and the unemployed.

The critics claim that it is inhuman to provide only free-of cost emergency aid to these categories of patients - and forcing others to pay for any normal care.

They maintain that many who can’t afford the medical service often abstain, wait until it’s too late or until the situation has become so dangerously acute that operations are far more expensive and time-consuming.

The Swedish minister of migration in the center-right government says he’s firmly against providing free medical service to immigrants and refugees applying for asylum.

The southern Swedish province of Skåne has rejected the government’s line on this - offering medical care to all, and the west coast city of Gothenburg says it is considering doing the same.
