Olympic Boycott Debate in Full Swing

The question whether to boycott the upcoming Olympics is in full swing.

Following statements by the French and Polish governments that they could envisage boycotting the Games, former Minister of Justice Thomas Bodström has suggested that Sweden do so by not attending the opening ceremony.

However, the government has made it very clear that it has no such intentions. It believes in dialogue with the Chinese, not in half-measured boycotts.

Minister of Culture, Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth, will be the only Swedish governmental representative at the Games. Speaking to daily Dagens Nyheter, she emphasised that she is attending the Games as a guest of the Swedish Olympic committee.
