Swedish Snuff Cures Reindeers’ Eye Infection

Swedish snuff may be able to cure a contagious eye infection affecting hundreds of reindeer in Rans Sameby.

Although this particular infection appears very rarely, it has affected so many reindeer that hundreds have been slaughtered.

The reindeer keepers have discovered that their fathers’ method of rubbing in a bit of snuff and spit into a reindeer’s eye really does appear to halt the infection. Even veterinarian Terje Josefssen agrees that snuff may be effective but would not advise using it.

Speaking to Swedish Radio, Josefssen said that it should really only be used in controlled test circumstances. However, the reindeer keepers of Rans Sameby are thrilled by its effectiveness.
