Historic Joint Red-Green Meeting

For the first time in Swedish history, the biggest opposition party, the Social Democrats, have held a joint executive meeting together with the heads of the Green and the Left Party.

Social Democratic leader Mona Sahlin told reporters afterwards, the meeting of the three opposition parties was meant to deepen collaboration between them.

Neither Sahlin nor the heads of the other parties said directly though that these joint talks were the pre-stage of a coalition after elections in 2010.

The politicians merely pointed out that it was necessary to install terms of cooperation in order to assure possible future joint governments.
