IOC’s Vice President Reminds China of Freedom of Press

The Vice-President of the International Olympic Committee, Gunilla Lindberg, has reminded China to respect the freedom of the press.

Speaking to Swedish Radio news, Lindberg maintained that China as the host nation of the 2008 Olympics has previously agreed to abide by the rules set up by the International Olympic Committee – including the freedom of the press.

But Lindberg also conceded that the IOC does not have sufficient means to control Chinese authorities.

Lindberg referred to documents revealed by “Reporters without Boarders” saying that China plans to influence international journalists during the Beijing Olympics.
