State Helps Citizens in Case of Emergency

Hundreds of Swedes died when the tsunami struck Thailand

Swedes abroad who become victims of a great disaster will be granted full help by the state.

A committee appointed by the government presented its international alert plan for Swedish citizens. In an overall case of emergency, the state will guarantee that its citizens will be brought back home as soon as possible. The costs for transportation will be split between the authorities and the evacuated citizens, the coordination lies with the newly installed alert center in Stockholm. During the evacuation of thousands of Swedish nationals following the Tsunami in 2004 in Asia and the Lebanon war in 2006 severe logistic problems among Swedish authorities became evident.
