Pre-Schools Kick Out Kids When Parents Don’t Pay

In the past 5 years, over 2 200 children have been locked out of their pre-school or after-school care because their parents neglected to pay the fees.

Child Ombudsman Lena Nyberg is quoted by news agency TT as saying that children should never be punished because grown-ups don’t take care of their responsibilities.

Statistics provided by TV 4 suggest that children in 80 percent of Sweden’s municipalities have been kicked out of pre-school or after school activities.

Lena Nyberg would like to see better dialogue between the municipalities and parents when it comes to unpaid fees.  She says another solution must be found, one that keeps the child in class.
