Another Scandal Derby Shakes Stockholm

Swedish football’s top division has again been shaken by a scandal derby in Stockholm.

The referee had to adjourn the match between Hammarby and AIK after a player was hit by several items thrown from a fan block. After the compulsory break of 15 minutes, the match could resume. But supporters clashed in the city hours after the game. One person was arrested by the police.

The clashes come right after the latest efforts by the Swedish Football Association to stop violence by supporters. In order to avoid clashes, Monday’s derby had been moved from Hammarby’s home arena to Råsunda, a northern suburb of the capital.

Only two weeks ago, Sweden’s deputy Attorney General presented his proposal on stricter laws against hooligans.
