Swedes Strengthened at Hockey Championships

Olympic gold medallist Henrik Lundqvist has agreed to join the Swedish national team for the remainder of the World Ice Hockey Championships.

The star National Hockey League goaltender was cleared for playing by the New York Rangers after the team was eliminated from the Stanley Cup play-offs during the weekend.

Sweden beat Belarus 6-5 in their opener, and then trounced France 9-0 on Monday.

Lundqvist won’t have to face jetlag making the journey from New York, as the world championships are being played in eastern Canada.
