Super-Fast Mobile Phone Licences Awarded

Sweden has awarded fourth generation, super-fast mobile phone licenses to five telecom operators in an auction worth 346 Million US dollars.

Sweden’s regulator, the Post and Telecom Agency, PTS, said that it awarded the 15 year licenses to Swedish-Finnish group TeliaSonera, Norway’s Telenor, Sweden’s Tele2, Intel Capital Corporation and HI3G Access.

4G is the next step in wireless communications and will ultimately make mobile connections as fast as fixed fibre links, giving customers faster web browsing and music downloads.

”The use of mobile broadband services has increased dramatically during the last few years,” PTS Director General Marianne Treschow said in a statement.

”By making the frequencies in the 2.6 GHz band available to market players, PTS provides opportunities for end-users to gain access to high-capacity mobile communications services.”
