Two Dead in Bridge Collapse

Two construction workers died and three more were injured Wednesday when parts of a railway bridge being built in northern Sweden collapsed.

The 770 meter long span over a bay north of Härnösand is part of a new stretch of railroad under construction. The bridge is due to be finished in 2011. An investigation is underway to determine why the 50 meter long end section broke off.

The two who died are reported to have been 35 and 52 years old. One of the injured has been in intensive care, and another under observation, while the third, an 18 year apprentice, escaped with lighter injuries.
