Swedish soldiers in Afghanistan

More Troops to Afghanistan

The Swedish military will send 27 more troops to its forces in Afghanistan.

As a military spokesman in Stockholm confirmed, the additional personnel who will be sent in the coming days is supposed to provide surveillance and security for convoys in the northern part of Afghanistan.

At present, 348 Swedes are on duty in the central Asian country but it is widely expected that Sweden will increase the number of its soldiers in Afghanistan to up to 500 next year due to the worsening overall security situation.

Sweden is not an official NATO member, but takes part in particular missions of the alliance.
