Iraqi Christians Protest In Stockholm

Hundreds of Christian Iraqis demonstrated outside the Swedish Parliament on Sunday to protest against what they say are attacks on Christians in their country.

A spokesperson for the European Syriac Union, Behiye Hadodo said that ”a new wave of ethnic cleansing is going on in Iraq and if these continue, the Chladean, Syriac and Assyrian communities there will be wiped out altogether.”

Widespread persecution including the bombing of churches and the murder of priests has forced hundreds of thousands to flee, mostly to neighbouring countries or to Kurdish northern Iraq.

Sweden is home to nearly half of some 70,000 Christian Iraqis living in Europe, according to the European Syriac Union, and will host an International conference on Iraq in four days time.
