Every Fifth Well Unearths Dirty Water

Published tisdag 27 maj 2008 kl 11.12

The Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare has inspected 5,000 wells around the country - and come up with some bad results.

According to the survey 20 percent or every fifth well in Sweden unearths brackish water.

Investigator Marianne Löwenhielm told Swedish Radio News that the major problem was the high quantity of bacteria in the water. People who drink that water would be in danger of contracting serious illnesses, Löwenhielm warned.

Generally, Swedish drinking water has a splendid reputation – being seen as one of the world’s healthiest ones.
