Burmese Freedom Fighter Wins Lindh award

The Anna Lindh Award named in honour of Sweden’s late Foreign Minister who was murdered in 2003 has gone to Burma’s Khin Ohmar.

The award from the Anna Lindh memorial fund is given out annually to mostly women or young people who fight injustice and oppression.

Khin Ohmar has been a tireless campaigner for democracy in Burma and has been living in exile in Thailand. Last year she led peace demonstrations in Burma against the country’s military regime.

The award will be handed out at a prize ceremony in Stockholm on the 18th June.
