Jan Eliasson Quits UN Post in Darfur

Sweden’s former foreign minister Jan Eliasson has resigned from his position as the UN’s chief negotiator in the Darfur conflict in Sudan.

He doesn’t want to keep the position as it would mean relocating to the Sudan.

Violence in western Sudan is escalating rapidly and Eliasson warns that there will be a “massive human catastrophe” if the world cannot find a solution to help the stricken country.
