US Embassy Denied Surveillance Permit

The County Administrative Board has denied the US embassy in Stockholm the right to have video surveillance outside its property.

An article in Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter sparked the investigation earlier this year. The Newspaper examined 48 embassies in Sweden and found that half had not gained a permit for their cameras, which is illegal in Sweden.

The US were the only ones not to get the permit out of the 15 embassies that applied for it.

The County Administration say they expect the US to obey Swedish law and take down their cameras as it is Swedish, not US, land that is being filmed.
