Swedes Adopting Children Forced to Search Abroad

Swedes interested in adopting children usually are forced to look abroad – since families here are very small and relatives or foster homes traditionally take care of a child left without parents.

Some have shown concern over potential problems bringing youngsters with other ethnic, racial and cultural backgrounds here to Sweden – while others have expressed strong desires to give these orphans in far away countries a home of their own.

Today, the most common countries that will adopt children to Sweden are Korea, China, Indonesia, India and Ethiopia.

Sara Johannesson a young Korean-born Swedish girl explains the positive versus the negative affects of adoption.
