Algae Attacks Again

The bright blue skies were unfortunately not matched by clear blue waters here in Sweden as algal blooms destroy the summer fun again.

The thick blue-green algae that plagued Sweden’s coasts last summer is back.

For the first time blooms have reached the Gulf of Bothnia in the northern area of the Baltic Sea and are fast approaching Stockholm’s inner archipelago.

The blooms make swimming impossible and the only hope to stop the spread is if temperatures drop within the next few days. Otherwise experts say it will be a while before waters are ok to bathe in again.
