Landlines Usurped by Mobile and Broadband

Swedes are abandoning fixed landline phones at home for their mobiles and broadband connection instead.

Telia phone providers have already lost 8 percent of their fixed landline subscriptions and Tele 2 phone company has lost 12 percent.

Instead, customers are choosing to make all calls on their mobile or with a broadband internet connection.

According to Thomas Ekman, who is in charge of Tele 2’s private use market, the reason may be that mobile phone costs have sunk so many households have chosen the mobile in place of a household phone. Speaking to Dagens Nyheter newspaper, Ekman pointed out that it is mainly young people who have left home who decide to forgoe a fixed landline.
